I'm Dennis Howe
Rooted in a love for both nature and the built environment, my work explores the intersection of memory, place, and imagination. Whether painting a sunlit forest, a charming village, or a cozy neighborhood pub, I strive to capture the spirit and character that make each scene unique.
My use of vivid color and textured brushwork is intentional—each stroke is meant to convey not just what I see, but how a place feels. Recurring motifs in my portfolio—golden autumn trees, whimsical buildings, tranquil streams—reflect my fascination with the stories that landscapes and architecture hold. I’m drawn to moments of transition: the changing of seasons, the quiet energy of a gathering place, the interplay of light and shadow at dawn or dusk.
These elements allow me to create art that is both grounded in reality and touched by a sense of wonder. I work primarily in watercolor and ink, embracing the fluidity and unpredictability of these mediums. This approach allows me to layer color and texture, building depth while maintaining a sense of spontaneity. My goal is to evoke emotion and spark memory, encouraging viewers to find their own stories within my scenes. Ultimately, I see my art as an invitation—to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the places that shape us. Each piece is a celebration of the ordinary made extraordinary, a reminder that beauty and meaning can be found in the world around us.
I received a BA of Fine Arts from Nazareth College of Kalamazoo many moons ago. But, my whole career has been on the the commercial side of art, i.e. graphic designer, creative director, marketing communications and owner of my advertising agency, Howe Creative.
Recently I've started to scale back and am currently semi-retired. I'm excited to get back into fine art after all these years, and initially I've been taking my own photographs and turning them into digital watercolors.
I've also been doing original artwork; and making personalized digital watercolors for customers of their houses, pets, cars, and senior pictures. They send me a photograph and I turn it into art.
I've also starting doing original fine art in both watercolors and acrylics.
My goal is to do artwork that is fun for me to do (after all these years of business.)
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
